Announcing Uni in beta testing

We started MedEdMentor with the mission of building an AI mentor for health professions education scholarship.

We’re now announcing the culmination of that mission: Uni. The name Uni refers to our mission to promote universal HPE scholarship.

Uni is an actual AI mentor designed specifically for HPE scholarship. We have been rolling it out to our institutional partners for several months, and Uni is now ready to be tested more broadly.

MedEdMentor Pro now comes with access to beta test Uni and we will be collecting feedback to continue improving Uni over time.

What makes Uni different

From the time we started MedEdMentor, we’ve watched AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and related products like Claude Code, Cowork, and Codex continue to evolve. From the beginning we’ve carefully considered how to durably differentiate Uni from all of these other AI tools. We settled on the two pillars that Uni is now build on top of.

The Atlas

First, Uni has access to our own curated database of papers. This is still in progress, but MedEdMentor’s database of papers (what we are now calling Atlas) is specifically tuned for medical education. Our work on creating this database has been published in Academic Medicine.

We are now in the early stages of adjusting this database to become a database which accurately captures all of health professions education scholarship. In our testing so far, because Uni can efficiently search through curated papers, Uni already offers qualitatively different guidance compared to more generic products.

HPE Skills

Second, Uni has access to our growing pile of Skills. Skills are ways to provide on-demand “packages” of tools and guidance. Separate from The Atlas, Geoff has spent several years conducting qualitative research to understand how mentors guide mentees through selecting, and applying HPE theories to their projects. This work has also been published in Academic Medicine.

This is just the beginning

We are very early in this process. We will be rapidly iterating on Uni in the coming months. For individual access, sign up for MedEdMentor Pro. For access for your whole program or group, contact us about our institutional plans by emailing geoffstetson@mededmentor.org.
